DE SOTO COUNTY · ROAD PROJECTS · VERIFIED THROUGH SEPTEMBER 29, 2026

Maintained, source-backed road project tracker — not a standard article. Evidence cutoff: September 29, 2026.

DeSoto County Road Projects: Getwell Road, I-55, Highway 305 & Current Status

DeSoto County's February 2026 four-year road plan names 15 projects and a separate list of nine longer-range priorities. They include county, city and MDOT roads; appearing on the list does not mean a project has construction money or an awarded contract. Getwell Road has several distinct sections: Southaven's Church Road–Star Landing widening is completed, while other sections have different design, right-of-way and planning records. A $44 million federal INFRA award was announced September 28 for an MDOT I-55/I-69 corridor, but it does not fund every interstate phase in the county plan. Highway 305's proposed widening must also be separated from maintenance work and proposed legislation. Use the segment and phase records below to see what is established and what remains unknown. [S01, S02, S03, S06, S08, S10]

Statuses describe the cited record as of the baseline, not live traffic or a guarantee that a projected date will be met. "No award located" describes this investigation, not proof that no award exists.

Evidence Rules

  • · County priority ≠ funding
  • · Estimated cost ≠ appropriation
  • · Design/ROW programming ≠ construction funding
  • · Proposed letting ≠ contract award
  • · Award ≠ notice to proceed
  • · NTP ≠ observed physical work
  • · Nearby work ≠ the same contract
  • · Maintenance ≠ widening
  • · One Getwell section ≠ the whole corridor
  • · County plan entry ≠ county-controlled project
  • · Federal award for one corridor ≠ funding for every phase
  • · Projected completion ≠ contractual or actual completion

Current Status Dashboard

DESIGN

GW-02 and GW-04 have TIP design phases programmed; GW-03 design task historically approved. "Design complete" for Starlanding 1/4 is only a county plan label.

WHAT IS IN ROW?

ROW

GW-03 county plan says "In ROW"; GW-02/04 have FY2027 ROW programmed; GW-05 plan says ROW. No acquisition completion inferred.

WHAT HAS PROGRAMMED FUNDING?

PROGRAMMED

GW-02/GW-04 design and ROW; RP-01 ROW; GW-05 signal construction grouping. Report phase and source.

WHAT HAS A VERIFIED CONSTRUCTION AWARD?

AWARDED

GW-01 historical low bid reported; no prospective Getwell widening award established here.

WHAT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION?

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

No prospective Getwell widening section established as physically under construction. Do not claim none anywhere countywide without checking each agency.

WHAT IS LONGER RANGE?

LONGER RANGE

Nine separately labeled county priorities; GW-02/04 also have current programmed preconstruction phases.

Getwell Road Widening: Which Section Is Which?

Pleasant Hill–Lester and Pleasant Hill–I-269 are not the same Getwell Road project. The first runs north from Pleasant Hill to Lester (GW-03); the second runs south from Pleasant Hill toward I-269 (GW-04). Star Landing–Lester (GW-02) is another northern section. Southaven's Church–Star Landing widening (GW-01) is an older completed project. The intersection at Pleasant Hill (GW-05) and Central Parkway–Church trail (GW-06) have their own scopes.

GW-01: Church Road → Star Landing Road

Project: MS-LSTP-2014-01

Lead: Southaven

COMPLETED

Two to five lanes; median, College signal; city reported $14,060,127 low bid, $7,887,061 federal allocation, March 1, 2023 actual stated construction start; later city record lists completion.

Actual start: 2023-03-01

Exact acceptance date null; don't reuse old start for GW-02/03/04. County's $875,000 assistance for Star Landing intersection is not another whole-road cost.

Who Is Responsible for DeSoto County Road Projects?

A road being located in DeSoto County does not mean DeSoto County controls the project.

DeSoto County

County plans/priorities and lead on TIP GW-02, GW-04 and Starlanding Segment 3; county Getwell GW-03 and intersection GW-05. Partners may share costs.

MDOT

Lead for interstate, U.S. 51 and state Highway 305 entries; publishes state schedules and lettings.

Southaven

Lead for completed GW-01 and separate GW-06 trail; partner/geography on GW-02.

Olive Branch

Frequently Asked Questions

What road projects are planned in DeSoto County?

The county's February 2026 plan lists 15 four-year entries and nine separate longer-range priorities. They range from Getwell and Starlanding to MDOT highways and bridge, intersection and overlay work. A plan entry alone does not confirm funding or construction. [S01]

What roads are currently being widened?

The reviewed records establish a completed Getwell widening and future/programmed sections, plus an MDOT interstate widening proposal and federal award. They do not establish that the prospective Getwell sections are physically under construction. This tracker is not a live roadwork feed. [S02, S06, S08]

What is happening with Getwell Road?

Several separate sections have different agencies and stages. Church–Star Landing is completed; Star Landing–Lester and Pleasant Hill–I-269 have programmed design/ROW; the county plan says Lester–Pleasant Hill is in ROW. [S01, S02, S06]

How many Getwell projects are tracked?

Six records: four consecutive widening sections, a separate Pleasant Hill intersection, and a separate trail. Only the first four are widening sections. [S01, S02, S03, S07]

Is Getwell Road being widened now?

No prospective widening section's physical construction start is established by the reviewed records. The completed Church–Star Landing work is often present in older results. [S03, S06]

What is happening between Star Landing and Lester?

MPO MS-STBG-2026-02 programs design in FY2026 and ROW in FY2027 for about 0.94 mile; it does not show construction programming in the adopted TIP. [S02]

What is happening between Lester and Pleasant Hill?

The county's four-year plan labels approximately 0.5 mile "In ROW." A design task and historical state bond activity are documented, but ROW completion and construction award are unverified. [S01, S04, S05]

What is happening between Pleasant Hill and I-269?

MPO MS-STBG-2026-01 programs design and ROW, not construction; its 0.95-mile length differs from the county list's approximately 0.5 mile. [S01, S02]

Are Pleasant Hill–Lester and Pleasant Hill–I-269 the same project?

No. They meet at Pleasant Hill but extend in opposite directions and have different records. [S01, S02]

When will Getwell construction start?

There is no verified construction start date for GW-02, GW-03 or GW-04. The March 2023 start belonged to the now completed Southaven section. [S02, S03]

Is Getwell widening fully funded?

The TIP programs design/ROW for GW-02 and GW-04; their estimated total costs are not construction appropriations. Full construction funding is not established in these records. [S02]

What is happening at Getwell and Pleasant Hill?

A separate county signal and turn-lane project appears in the plan and MPO signal grouping. A past county minute reported NTP, but a construction award and physical start need verification. [S01, S02, S12]

What is happening with I-55?

MDOT controls four widening/interchange priorities in the county plan. A specific Church–north of Goodman corridor received an announced $44m INFRA award September 28. [S01, S08]

What is the $44 million award?

An announced federal INFRA award for MDOT's I-55/I-69 Church–approximately one mile north of SR 302 corridor, including lane and interchange improvements; not a sum for all four county-plan phases. [S08]

When will I-55 construction begin?

MDOT lists a February 2027 proposed letting for the relevant reconstruction/widening contract. A letting is a procurement milestone, not a construction start date. [S10]

What is happening with Highway 305?

The county prioritizes widening Church–Byhalia. A separate 2026 bill proposed money for Church–I-269, while a 2025 project near the Tennessee line was pavement maintenance. [S01, S09, S17]

Is Highway 305 widening funded?

The county plan alone does not establish construction funding; introduced bill language is not an appropriation. Check a later enacted funding record before changing this answer. [S01, S09]

Who controls these projects?

The lead varies: MDOT controls state/interstate projects; DeSoto County leads some local sections; Southaven and Olive Branch have city work; the MPO programs transportation funds but is not every road's owner. [S01, S02, S03]

How much will the projects cost?

Each card distinguishes an estimated total from phase programming, a contract award and actual spending. A single combined county spending total cannot responsibly be derived from the plan's ranges. [S01, S02]

When will they be finished?

Most prospective projects have no verified contractual completion date in the reviewed records. A city's projected July 2027 trail completion and MDOT's proposed February 2027 letting are different date types, neither a widening completion promise. [S07, S10]
