Chau Ram: waterfall views near Westminster
1220 Chau Ram Park Road, Westminster · 864-647-9286.
The county park page lists Ramsey Creek’s waterfall, a suspension bridge, picnic areas, a playground and more than three miles of trails. It describes accessible waterfall viewing; that does not establish that every trail is accessible.
The fee schedule lists $5 per car. Gates close from dusk to 7 a.m. The operator describes a winter campground closure and a roughly three-week day-use closure near Christmas; call for the specific dates before making a winter trip.
South Cove: Lake Keowee access and a family afternoon
1099 South Cove Road, Seneca · 864-882-5250.
South Cove’s county page lists boat ramps, a playground, picnic areas, courts and an accessible fishing pier. This is a practical starting point for a lakeside outing close to Seneca. Confirm the specific facility and access route if mobility needs will determine your visit.
The published parking fee is $5 per car, with a separate $5 boat/trailer charge. The park lists year-round operation and gate closure from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Rental and camping charges are separate.
Compare launch choices and the Keowee Town notice in the Lake Keowee public-access guide.
High Falls: picnics and Lake Keowee recreation
671 High Falls Road, Seneca · 864-882-8234.
High Falls County Park offers lake access, boat ramps, a fishing pier, picnic areas and a playground. Its fee page lists $5 per car and $5 per boat/trailer; paid recreation and rentals have their own charges.
The operator lists day use and lake access year-round, with camping closed from mid-November through February; confirm exact seasonal dates. Gates close from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. A Seneca mailing address does not mean this park is in downtown Seneca.
The county’s posted winter PDF contains older seasons. Confirm 2026–27 camping and holiday dates directly before booking.
Devils Fork: Lake Jocassee and a Salem day trip
Devils Fork State Park provides public access to Lake Jocassee. Its published adult admission is $8; check reduced rates and current hours. Use the new Salem and Lake Jocassee guide for car versus trailer parking, walking options, tours and nearby food.
Oconee State Park: a mountain park day
624 State Park Road, Mountain Rest · 864-638-5353.
Use the official park page for admission and current notices, and its things-to-do page to choose a trail or activity. Posted admission is $5 per adult, $3.25 for eligible South Carolina seniors, $3 for children ages 6–15, and free for ages 5 and under.
The regular gate schedule is Sunday–Thursday 7 a.m.–7 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 7 a.m.–9 p.m., extended to 9 p.m. daily during daylight saving time. Holiday programs can have separate arrangements; our 2026 holiday guide identifies those announcements.
Oconee Station and Station Cove Falls
The state historic site lists free admission and grounds open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily. Call 864-638-0079 about ranger-led tours; a visit to the grounds does not guarantee a building tour.
The official trail description identifies the Station Cove Falls Trail as an easy hike to a stepped waterfall. Use its current trail information to choose your starting point. An “easy” hiking classification is not an accessibility certification. Stay on established routes and respect signs around the falls.
Stumphouse Mountain Park: check the attraction before you go
The park operator posts $5 per vehicle and fall/winter hours of 8 a.m.–6 p.m., with longer spring/summer hours. Bike trails close after heavy rain; check the operator’s linked closure updates before bringing a bike.
Visit Oconee identifies Issaqueena Falls, Stumphouse Tunnel and hiking routes within the park area. Current tunnel-entry availability was not verified in this review. Confirm access with the operator rather than assuming that a park listing means every attraction is open. For Issaqueena Falls, use the designated viewing area and posted routes.
Oconee History Museum in Walhalla
123 Browns Square Drive, Walhalla · 864-638-2224.
The museum’s visitor page lists Tuesday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Exhibits explore county history, and the children’s corner gives younger visitors a way into the subject. The museum confirms free admission.
This is a useful indoor anchor for a Walhalla outing. Check the operator’s calendar if you want a program or guided activity rather than a self-guided visit.
General Store Museum in Westminster
126 E Main Street, Westminster · 864-647-9550.
The operator’s visitor page lists Thursday–Friday, 11 a.m.–4 p.m., and Saturday, 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m. This branch focuses on the area’s history and the experience of an earlier general store.
It pairs naturally with a Westminster visit or a separate stop at Chau Ram. Check the operator for admission details and special arrangements; do not assume the Walhalla branch’s hours apply here.
Lunney Museum in Seneca
The city’s historic house museum offers a look at the Lunney home and local life. The department posts Tuesday–Wednesday, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at review.
The city directory gives the address as 211 W South 1st Street and directs visitors to the museum department for tour arrangements. Confirm admission, booking and access needs at 864-885-1954. Special programs follow their own schedules.
Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum in Seneca
The museum’s own page describes exhibits about local African American history, culture and contributions. Its posted hours are Thursday–Friday, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
The city directory lists 208 W South 2nd Street. Confirm tour arrangements, admission and access needs at 864-885-2705. The two Seneca museums have different regular visiting days; plan around the one you most want to see.
Walhalla hatchery: trout viewing in Mountain Rest
SCDNR’s visitor page lists usual hours of 8 a.m.–4 p.m. daily, with a Christmas Day closure and possible winter weather exceptions. Families can walk through; groups should arrange a tour. The reviewed page does not specify an admission charge.
The hatchery is in the Mountain Rest area, not downtown Walhalla. Use the Mountain Rest guide for contact information and the adjacent picnic area’s separate hours.
Brasstown Falls: lower trail restriction remains posted
The Forest Service’s October 15 notice, reviewed October 28, keeps the lower trail below the first viewing platform closed because of storm damage and hazards. Do not plan the full normal route or continue around barriers.
See the Long Creek guide for the permitted upper-route distances, driving-source link and nearby food stops. Check the agency notice again before leaving.
Four ways to build a family outing
These are suggested combinations, not booked tours or timed routes.
- Seneca and Lake Keowee: Choose South Cove for a lake stop, then browse the downtown guide for a meal or shopping. Pick the museum day separately if you want to include a tour.
- Walhalla indoors and outdoors: Start with the History Museum during its posted hours. Add Oconee Station or a confirmed-open Stumphouse attraction if weather and daylight allow.
- Westminster: Combine the General Store Museum with Chau Ram when both fit their operating schedules.
- Salem and Lake Jocassee: Use the Salem guide to choose a park walk or a booked boat outing, then match a food stop to its hours.
For a lower-cost outing, Oconee Station and the Oconee History Museum explicitly publish free admission. For an indoor plan, compare museum visiting days before setting out. Outdoor accessibility varies by facility; the specific accessible features noted above should not be generalized to an entire park.
Seasonal access, sources and related guides
Check the operator’s latest notice, admission terms and gate hours before departure. “Year-round” describes general operation; storms, maintenance and holiday closures can still affect a particular visit. County, city and state park passes are not interchangeable by default.

For lake access and northern Oconee, see Lake Keowee ramps, parks and fees and Salem and Lake Jocassee.
October 27, 2026 — Phase 5 refresh. Added Devils Fork, bringing this guide to eleven destinations. Rechecked county park schedules and fees and added both lake guides. The older winter PDF is not presented as a current holiday schedule.
For forest outings beyond the lakes and downtowns, compare Mountain Rest parks, hatchery and waterfalls with Long Creek, Chattooga rafting and food stops. These are separate driving trips; check the destination’s own access notice.
October 28, 2026 — Phase 6 refresh. Added the hatchery and Brasstown, bringing this guide to thirteen destinations. Identified the lower-trail closure and linked both new mountain guides. Other attraction entries retain their previous source dates.
