Long Creek and Chattooga River Guide: Waterfalls, Rafting and Food

Choose a waterfall walk, a booked rafting trip or a relaxed food-and-farm visit along the US 76 corridor. Compare seven stops in Long Creek and the nearby Chattooga area.

DIRECT ANSWER · DATED EVIDENCE

Brasstown’s lower trail remains closed below the first viewing platform. Rafting and restaurant schedules need a dated booking or operator check.

Start with the current restrictions and season

Choose a main outing first. Read the Brasstown restriction below before planning a waterfall walk, and check a dated departure before choosing a rafting trip.

Late October is also a transition for local food service. The farm section explains Chattooga Belle Farm’s seasonal closure and conflicting bistro hours.

For Oconee State Park, the hatchery and hikes farther north, use the Mountain Rest guide. These are separate driving destinations.

Operator prices and hours below are dated planning information. They do not establish same-day capacity, weather suitability or availability. The two rafting listings are selected operators, not a complete directory or an endorsement.

Brasstown Falls: keep to the permitted upper routes

The Forest Service’s October 15 notice keeps the trail below the first viewing platform closed for storm hazards.

Its directions list 0.2 mile to the fork, then 0.1 mile left to Little Brasstown or 0.2 mile right to the first platform, including 10 steps. Calculated return distances are 0.6 and 0.8 mile, respectively. Follow posted restrictions; the lower platforms and bottom are outside this outing.

The site is day use, without drinking water or reliable trail phone service. Save the agency’s driving directions before leaving service, recheck its notice, and stay off waterfall rocks.

Bull Sluice: a river-viewing stop near US 76

Visit Oconee’s access description identifies a 0.2-mile walk from the US 76 river-access parking area to the viewing area. Treat that as the described approach, with a return walk still required. Follow the established viewing trail and avoid the rocks at the rapids.

The Forest Service river page identifies the US 76 bridge access and provides river-use requirements. Watching from the trail is a different plan from floating or paddling the river. A roadside access point does not make this a casual swimming stop or a suitable put-in for every skill level. Current site-specific fees and restroom service were not established in the reviewed pages.

For an independent river trip, read the agency’s current registration and boating requirements and obtain a river-specific plan. The guide below compares booked operator trips; it is not a navigation guide for unguided paddling.

Wildwater: a Long Creek rafting departure

1251 Academy Road, Long Creek · reservations 866-319-8870 · local office 864-647-9587. Use Wildwater’s location page for check-in directions.

Its Chattooga trip page lists Section III for ages 8 and up, approximately 7 hours, from $159.95 per person, and Section IV for ages 12 and up, approximately 7 hours, from $179.95. Listed base prices exclude taxes and fees. Section IV is described as strenuous, with previous whitewater experience strongly recommended.

The detailed Section III and IV listings say early March–early November, while the page’s summary says March–October. That mismatch is a reason to confirm an actual dated departure rather than assume November availability. Age limits are minimums; discuss the trip’s physical demands and any access needs with the operator before booking.

NOC: confirm the Mountain Rest outpost and trip date

851A Chattooga Ridge Road, Mountain Rest · 866-336-1037. NOC’s outpost page gives this South Carolina address. It belongs in a corridor comparison even though it is not a Long Creek mailing address; use the booking confirmation for the correct meeting point.

The Chattooga trip page advertises a March–October season. Section III is listed for ages 8 and up, 5–6 hours, from $135; Section IV for ages 12 and up, 5–6 hours, from $155. The listed trips include lunch. “From” prices are starting prices, not a final quote for your party or date.

Section IV is the more demanding outing. Confirm suitability, total cost, arrival time and cancellation terms directly. Do not substitute a public river-access parking lot for the operator’s check-in location.

These are operator-specific listings, not a universal age rule for every river trip. Choose by trip demands, departure availability and the needs of your group. Keep a rafting day flexible: the time advertised for the excursion may not include your drive, check-in or a later meal. A booked full-day trip and a waterfall hike need separate time plans.

Chattooga Belle Farm: check each part of the business

454 Damascus Church Road, Long Creek · 864-647-9768. The farm’s own website posts fall store hours of Monday–Thursday 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and Friday–Sunday 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Its fall notice lists the bistro Wednesday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–2 p.m., with a seasonal closing on Halloween. A separate banner still says Thursday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Wednesday service is therefore unconfirmed; call before planning lunch, and do not assume November service.

The produce stand is closed for the 2026 season, with a spring 2027 return announced. The store, bistro, distillery and produce stand have separate schedules. Open grounds do not establish that every business area is serving, and no current u-pick availability is asserted here.

Humble Pie: a Thursday–Sunday meal option

14239 Long Creek Highway, Long Creek · 864-647-9098. The operator’s Humble Pie page lists Thursday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–8 p.m., with pizza, sandwiches, salads and wings. Confirm holiday or seasonal changes before arriving late in the day.

This is an established food stop, not a newly announced opening. For a Monday–Wednesday outing, arrange another meal option rather than assuming the published service extends through the week.

The Gauge Coffeehouse: a daytime starting point

14239 Long Creek Highway, Long Creek. The operator’s Gauge Coffeehouse page lists 8 a.m.–4 p.m., seven days a week, with coffee, pastries and breakfast sandwiches or other food to take along.

The Gauge shares a listed street address with Humble Pie but has its own hours. Confirm current service before using it as a breakfast stop or counting on food after an outdoor outing.

Two flexible ways to spend the day

Waterfall-and-food day: start with coffee, choose a permitted upper Brasstown route, then plan lunch around the day’s actual restaurant hours. Add the Bull Sluice viewing walk only if daylight, weather and the group’s energy allow it. A farm-store visit can be a separate stop; the bistro is not a dependable winter lunch plan.

Rafting day: reserve a suitable departure first, use the operator’s meeting address and keep the rest of the day open. Check whether your trip includes lunch. Arrange an evening meal only after comparing the return time with published service hours.
