Pingree Grove garbage rates, recycling and composting in 2026–27
Pingree Grove, Kane County, Illinois
At a glance
Pingree Grove’s published garbage schedule lists a $24.80 monthly standard rate and a $16.63 senior rate for July 2026 through June 2027. Regular pickup is Friday, with holiday exceptions. Optional composting, extra carts and some special collections have separate conditions; the dated village schedule and provider instructions explain which charges apply.
Editorially updated . Individual source dates and limits appear below.
Key Takeaways
- •The July 2026–June 2027 base rate is $24.80 monthly, or $16.63 for the senior package.
- •Current instructions describe four-month billing periods; an older brochure contains outdated prices and billing language.
- •The $5 seasonal yard cart and $27 or $38 year-round WasteNot subscription are different services.
- •Published bulk-item instructions conflict; Kane County separately offers annual hazardous-waste pickup for eligible households.
Sources reviewed October 4, 2026. Pingree Grove residents face several different waste-service decisions: the regular garbage bill, seasonal yard waste, optional food-scrap collection, and disposal of appliances, electronics or household chemicals. This guide connects those questions to the village's current rate sheet and the providers' instructions.
The useful starting point is the service address and billing period. Older village documents remain online, and some published collection instructions conflict. Check the dated price table before treating a search result as the current charge.
Current garbage and recycling rates
The village's linked collection rate schedule lists these charges for the standard single-family and senior packages, each showing a 95-gallon refuse cart and 65-gallon recycling cart:
| Charge | July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 | July 1, 2027–June 30, 2028 |
|---|---|---|
| Standard monthly base rate | $24.80 | $25.54 |
| Senior monthly base rate | $16.63 | $17.12 |
| Additional cart rate | $2.50 | $2.58 |
| Bulk item above the stated seven-item allowance | $6.02 | $6.20 |
The current village service page says bills arrive in January, May and September, covering four months each. At the current base rate, four months calculate to $99.20 standard or $66.52 senior, before optional services, credits or other adjustments. These are calculations, not a promise of an individual invoice total.
The older village brochure identifies the senior program as age 65 and older. Ask Flood Brothers how to establish eligibility and when a discount takes effect on an existing account.
That brochure also shows 2023–2024 prices and describes quarterly billing. Those details differ from the current rate sheet and service page. For a billing question, provide the service dates and the exact document being compared. The rate-sheet URL itself contains older years; use the dates inside the document.
Is garbage service mandatory?
The residential collection code requires owners of single-family and multifamily residential property to subscribe to the village-appointed hauler and pay for service. The code also provides for automatic subscription if an owner does not arrange it. The current village page identifies Flood Brothers as the hauler.
Optional composting is a separate decision. Signing up for food-scrap pickup does not replace the regular refuse account.
For rental properties, distinguish the owner's municipal responsibility from arrangements in a lease. See the Pingree Grove rental registration and inspection guide for the separate inspection program.
Friday pickup, holidays and cart placement
The village lists regular collection on Fridays, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. The rate sheet lists six service holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Its rule moves collection one day later when an observed holiday falls on Sunday or a weekday; a Saturday holiday does not delay the normal Friday pickup. Check the provider's current holiday notice for the actual collection date.
The code sets the residential cart window:
- Put containers out no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before collection.
- Remove them by 7 p.m. on the day collection is completed.
- Keep containers from obstructing streets, sidewalks or maintenance.
- Between collections, follow the code's garage or approved rear-storage provisions and any applicable association requirements.
The Cambridge Lakes community guide explains how to identify the association documents for an address.
For a missed pickup, contact Flood Brothers at 630-261-0400, listed by the village. Give the service address, date, material type and when the container was placed outside. Keep the confirmation number or written response with the bill.
Two different ways to collect food scraps
Pingree Grove has a seasonal yard-cart option and a separate year-round bucket subscription. Compare the collection season, container and accepted materials before choosing.
| Option | Published price | Container and schedule | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flood Brothers yard-waste cart with food scraps | $5 per month during the yard-waste season | 95-gallon cart; seasonal service | Eligible scraps, final autumn pickup and seasonal billing |
| WasteNot single bucket | $27 per month | One 5-gallon bucket; every other Wednesday, year-round | Address enrollment and current collection calendar |
| WasteNot two buckets | $38 per month | Two 5-gallon buckets; same program | Capacity and current account terms |
The village rate sheet includes food-scrap collection with the $5 yard cart. Flood Brothers' local instructions describe seasonal cart billing from April through November. That price should not be read as the year-round WasteNot subscription.
The village's current compost section lists both WasteNot prices and says the program began May 27, 2026. WasteNot's Pingree Grove page confirms alternate-Wednesday service, clean bucket exchanges and year-round operation. It accepts meat, bones, dairy and qualifying BPI-certified compostable products, alongside other food scraps. It excludes items including plastic, glass, metal, pet waste and diapers.
Those rules do not establish what belongs in a Flood Brothers yard cart. Kane County's food-scrap guidance distinguishes seasonal yard-waste programs and warns that materials such as meat, liquids and compostable serviceware can be excluded. Obtain the hauler's current acceptance list for the specific program. A package labeled compostable is not automatically acceptable in every collection stream.
Who pays for the new program?
The staff memo on PDF page 59 of the March 16, 2026 board packet describes an opt-in subscription funded by participating residents. The packet also contains a draft, unsigned agreement beginning on PDF page 61. It includes separate provisions for service at designated village buildings.
This review did not establish the executed agreement, village-building invoices, participation totals or actual public spending. The memo alone should not be presented as proof that every part of the arrangement has zero public cost. Its proposed Friday schedule also differs from the Wednesday schedule now published by the village and provider.
Yard waste, bulk items and appliances: clarify before pickup
Flood Brothers says ordinary yard-waste and leaf stickers were eliminated in July 2023, with seasonal collection using paper bags or marked containers up to 32 gallons and a 50-pound limit. Its same page still mentions stickers in the bundled-branch instructions. The published end-of-season descriptions also vary slightly. Confirm the last scheduled collection and preparation rules before setting out branches or late-autumn material.
There is a second, more consequential mismatch:
| Published record | What it says |
|---|---|
| Village rate sheet | First seven white goods at no charge with 24-hour notice; a bulk-item rate applies above seven |
| Flood Brothers local webpage | Bulk items and white goods are described as carrying a per-item charge |
Do not assume there are two separate seven-item free allowances, or that every oversized item qualifies. Ask for a written quote identifying the item, the account's remaining allowance, appointment requirements and the rule used. The guide records the discrepancy; it does not resolve how the hauler will apply it to a particular pickup.
Leaving for winter or checking an unexpected bill
Flood Brothers describes a vacation credit for an absence of at least 30 days. It requires advance notice with departure and return dates and an account paid up before vacation status; credit is applied after return. Notice given only after returning does not qualify for a retroactive credit under the posted instructions.
Before disputing a bill, assemble:
- The account's service dates and rate category.
- The base-rate calculation for that billing period.
- Separate lines for additional carts, composting or special pickups.
- Any approved senior status or vacation-credit confirmation.
- The provider's written explanation of a disputed item or allowance.
A regular refuse bill is a different record from a village water and sewer bill or property-tax bill. Compare charges within the correct account.
Free household hazardous-waste pickup for eligible addresses
Kane County explicitly includes Pingree Grove in its eligible at-home household hazardous-waste program. The county offers one free collection per calendar year for eligible households, with a 70-pound limit on mixed hazardous waste. Latex paint is excluded from that weight calculation under the posted rules. Business waste, including home-business waste, is not accepted.
Use the address checker on the county page, then follow its Clean Harbors booking link or call 866-466-5060. Get the collection and packaging instructions before preparing materials. This is an appointment service; it is not permission to put chemicals beside Friday's trash cart.
Electronics and the next recycling event
The county's West Dundee recycling center is at 900 Angle Tarn, with access through the public-works entrance from Beacon Street. Posted hours are Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m., excluding most federal holidays; no appointment is required there.
The county lists a charge for televisions and standalone monitors: $25 for screens under 21 inches and $35 for 21 inches or larger. Check the center's accepted-item list and current fees before traveling.
The village's 3-Cycle event page still describes April 25, 2026, which has passed. Its event-specific free television offer should not be applied to an ordinary county drop-off. This review did not verify a 2027 village event date.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is garbage service in Pingree Grove?
The published standard base rate is $24.80 monthly for July 2026 through June 2027. The senior rate is $16.63. Optional services and account adjustments can change the bill.
Is garbage billed every three months?
The current village page says January, May and September bills each cover four months. An older brochure says quarterly and contains older prices; check the current account statement.
Do I have to buy the $27 compost subscription?
The year-round WasteNot program is optional. Regular residential refuse service remains required under the village code.
Is the $5 food-scrap option the same as WasteNot?
No. The $5 price refers to a seasonal Flood Brothers yard cart. WasteNot uses smaller exchanged buckets year-round. Container capacity, schedule and accepted materials differ.
Can I put an old refrigerator out without arranging collection?
Arrange the pickup first. The village rate sheet requires advance notice for white goods, and published instructions conflict about charges. Confirm the allowance and price for your account.
Can Pingree Grove residents get hazardous waste collected at home?
The county lists Pingree Grove as eligible for its annual household pickup program. Use its address checker and contractor booking process to confirm the address and eligible materials.
Records, corrections and next update
This is a residential service and document guide, not an account-specific invoice determination. It distinguishes current prices, older brochures, provider instructions and draft contract language. No resident account details or private household records were used.
Recheck the rate table before July 1, 2027, seasonal instructions before the last autumn pickup, and event listings when the village announces another recycling event. A future update should seek written clarification of bulk-item allowances, branch stickers and the final compost agreement. The public-records guide explains where to locate village records.
