Pingree Grove overnight parking: 2–5 a.m. rules, snow bans and requests

At a glance

Pingree Grove generally prohibits street parking from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. Residents and visitors can submit an overnight parking request through the police department's Frontline portal before 2 a.m., subject to a five-request monthly limit tied to the residence, vehicle or combination. Registration does not override snow or weather bans, no-parking streets, commercial-vehicle restrictions or other parking rules.

Editorially updated . Individual evidence dates and limitations appear below.

Verified through October 10, 2026. Pingree Grove generally prohibits parking on village streets between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. A vehicle that needs to remain on the street during those hours should be registered through the police department's Frontline overnight parking portal before 2 a.m.

The village says each residence, vehicle or combination is limited to five overnight parking requests per calendar month. An approved or submitted request does not cancel a snow ban, no-parking sign, all-day street prohibition or other rule that independently makes the location unlawful.

How to request overnight street parking

  1. Open the Pingree Grove Frontline portal.
  2. Select the overnight parking option.
  3. Enter the resident or requestor name, address and phone number.
  4. Enter the vehicle's make, model, color, license plate and state.
  5. Submit the request before the 2 a.m. restricted period begins.
  6. Save the confirmation or take a screenshot for your records.

The village page does not explain every portal-counting scenario, such as whether multiple vehicles on one night are counted separately or how a request spanning more than one night is treated. The published rule says the residence, vehicle or any combination is limited to five requests per calendar month. For an unusual situation, call police administration before relying on an assumption.

Snow, ice and dangerous weather override a parking request

A normal overnight registration does not authorize street parking during a snow or weather prohibition. Village Code §7-5-5 prohibits street parking when:

  • Two inches or more of snow has occurred.
  • The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning, ice storm warning or equivalent warning likely to require snow removal or deicing.
  • The village issues a parking-ban notice because of anticipated snow, ice or another emergency condition.

The code says the ban generally continues until 24 hours after the event ends and snow-removal operations are fully completed, unless the village ends it earlier through an official notice. Vehicles obstructing snow removal may be towed.

Check the Village of Pingree Grove website and current notices before leaving a vehicle on the street during winter weather. The Snow and Ice Control page explains which agencies maintain different roads.

Streets where parking is prohibited at all times

Village Code §7-5-1 lists these roads as no-parking streets:

  • Illinois Route 72
  • Reinking Road
  • Richard J. Brown Boulevard
  • U.S. Route 20
  • Wester Boulevard

An overnight request does not override an all-day prohibition on one of those roads or a posted no-parking sign elsewhere.

Sidewalk parking: the 2024 change does not cancel the overnight ban

The village's current page says parking on or over a sidewalk is prohibited from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and permitted from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. under the 2024 amendment to §7-5-2(H)(1)(a)(2).

That nighttime sidewalk provision should not be read as permission to ignore the separate 2–5 a.m. street-parking restriction. A vehicle parked on or over a sidewalk during the restricted overnight hours still needs to comply with the overnight-registration process and every other applicable rule.

Other parking rules residents commonly miss

Narrow residential streets

On a residential street whose paved portion is 24 feet wide or less, vehicles must park only on one side of the street in an otherwise lawful area. Posted signs and temporary restrictions still control.

Driveways, hydrants, signs and intersections

The code prohibits or restricts parking in locations including:

  • In front of a driveway.
  • Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant.
  • Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.
  • Within 30 feet of a stop sign, yield sign, flashing signal or traffic signal.
  • In an intersection, on a crosswalk or where official signs prohibit parking.
  • Within a roundabout or within 30 feet of an access point from a public street.
  • Within 15 feet of a mailbox.

The complete code contains additional restrictions. A Frontline request does not validate an otherwise unlawful location.

Parking direction and distance from the curb

On a two-way roadway, the code generally requires right-hand wheels to be parallel to and within 12 inches of the right-hand curb or edge. On a one-way road, the vehicle must face the authorized direction of traffic and remain close to the appropriate curb or edge.

Grass, parkways and unapproved surfaces

Village Code §7-5-2 prohibits parking on grass, dirt, parkways and other unimproved or unapproved surfaces, including front or side yard setback areas outside a properly permitted driveway. Overnight registration applies to street parking; it does not authorize lawn or parkway parking.

Boats, trailers, RVs and commercial vehicles

Boats, trailers and recreational vehicles

The code says a boat, trailer or recreational vehicle may not remain on a village street for more than 48 hours at a time. A boat or trailer on the street generally must be properly connected to a lawfully registered and operable vehicle capable of moving it, subject to a limited daytime loading or work exception.

Separate weight restrictions also apply. Village Code §7-5-6 prohibits street or right-of-way parking for recreational vehicles at or above 12,000 pounds and recreational trailers at or above 5,000 pounds. Public parking areas generally have an eight-hour RV limit unless the police chief grants permission.

The 48-hour rule does not erase the nightly 2–5 a.m. restriction. Obtain guidance from the village when a vehicle's weight, plate class or trailer configuration is unclear.

Commercial vehicles

Commercial-vehicle restrictions depend on plate class, weight, zoning and use. Among other provisions, the code bars trucks requiring a Class F or higher plate, or weighing more than 12,000 pounds, from streets and rights of way except for listed exceptions. It similarly restricts trailers at or above the applicable plate or 5,000-pound thresholds.

The code allows limited delivery and loading exceptions but says commercial vehicles may not be parked overnight on a road or right of way within the village. A normal passenger-vehicle overnight request should not be assumed to authorize a restricted commercial vehicle.

Overnight parking ticket fines

Village Code §7-5-10 lists the following schedule for a violation of the 2–5 a.m. overnight parking rule:

Payment timing shown in the codeListed fine
1–10 days$20
11–20 days$40
21 or more days$60

Other parking violations use a separate $40, $80 and $120 schedule. Temporary restrictions imposed for public-safety conditions can carry a minimum $100 fine and immediate towing, while tampering with temporary parking signs can carry a minimum $500 fine.

Use the amount and deadline printed on the actual notice. The code schedule is not a substitute for the ticket, a court or administrative order, towing charges, or later amendments.

How to request review of a parking ticket

The police FAQ directs people seeking review to submit the Parking Ticket Mediation Request available through the village's Form Center. The FAQ says the form may be emailed or printed and dropped at the police station, with notice of the review sent by mail.

Keep a copy of:

  • The ticket and issue date.
  • Overnight parking confirmation, if one was submitted.
  • Photographs of signs or the location, when relevant.
  • Any snow-ban or emergency notice relied upon.
  • The mediation request and delivery confirmation.

Submitting a request for review does not automatically cancel the notice or extend a payment deadline. Follow the instructions on the ticket and the current village form.

Vacation watches while you are away

The same Frontline portal accepts vacation-watch requests. The police department says it will make every effort, depending on call volume, to perform residence checks as a courtesy, but it is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged property.

The village asks for:

  • Contact name and email.
  • Home address.
  • Cell and home phone numbers.
  • Dates away.
  • Alarm and pet information.
  • Emergency contact information.
  • Lights or timers that will be on.
  • Vehicles remaining in the driveway, including make, model, color and plate.
  • People expected to visit or check the home.
  • Any additional helpful details or documents.

A vacation watch is a police courtesy, not insurance, private security or a guarantee that every requested check will occur.

Frequently Asked Questions

What hours is street parking prohibited in Pingree Grove?

The village code generally prohibits street parking from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. each day.

How many overnight parking requests can I submit?

The village says each residence, vehicle or combination is limited to five requests per calendar month.

Can I park on the street after submitting the form if snow is expected?

Not when a qualifying snow, ice or dangerous-weather prohibition applies. Weather bans and snow-removal rules override a normal overnight request.

Does the sidewalk rule allow parking from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. without registering?

No. The nighttime sidewalk provision and the separate overnight street-parking restriction must both be followed.

Can I use an overnight request for an RV, trailer or commercial truck?

Do not assume so. Separate time, weight, plate-class and vehicle-type restrictions apply, and some commercial vehicles may not be parked overnight on village roads at all.

How much is an overnight parking ticket?

The current code lists $20 if paid within 1–10 days, $40 within 11–20 days and $60 after 21 days for the overnight-parking subsection. Use the actual ticket for the controlling amount and deadline.

How do I request a vacation watch?

Use the same Frontline portal and provide the dates away, contacts, alarm and pet details, expected vehicles or visitors, and other useful information.
