Texas School Library District & Book Decision Database

Search official-source research by district, county, title, author and decision stage.

By WorthFighting Research · Published and verified October 9, 2026 · Selected records, not a statewide census

43 research records: 16 district profiles + 27 selected title records. “Last documented outcome” and “Current-status evidence” are separate filters. District profiles do not have title outcomes and disappear when a title-only filter is used. “Unknown” means the field was not established, not that nothing happened.

Status definitions

Decision stages

Challenge filed
A formal challenge is documented; the review body may not yet be identified.
Administrative review
Staff are evaluating a collection or title outside a documented formal challenge decision.
Committee review
A committee or advisory council is reviewing a title.
Committee recommendation
A recommendation is recorded; it is not itself a final board decision.
Board consideration
An agenda identifies an item for trustees; action is not yet established.
Board decision
An official source attributes a decision to trustees; its date and tally are recorded only when supplied.
Appeal pending
An appeal is expressly pending in the latest source. A past appeal agenda alone is not enough.
Final current status not located
A dated final disposition or current status could not be established from the reviewed records.

Outcomes

Under review
The latest register says review is pending; exact availability may be unverified.
Temporarily restricted
Access is suspended while review continues; not a permanent removal.
Age or grade restricted
The documented action limits access by age, grade or permission.
Retained
The deciding body kept the material in the stated collection.
Removed
The source records removal from the stated collection; scope and date still matter.
Restored
The source records returning material after an earlier restriction or removal.
Acquisition rejected
A proposed addition was rejected; this does not establish removal of an existing copy.
No final decision located
Intermediate records were found, but a final decision was not verified.
Unknown
The evidence does not establish this field. It does not mean no policy, no challenge or noncompliance.

Data dictionary

District fields: district, administrative-center county and county scope, exact policy identifier/title where verified, policy evidence, acquisition-policy adoption and date, parent catalog access, checkout controls, challenge procedure, council, qualifying petition, public acquisition records, decision-record coverage, latest source date/context, verification date and tracker URL.

Title fields: title, source-attributed author, public challenger/source, stated reason, campuses, grades, stage, filing date, administrative review, committee recommendation, board action, vote, board date, last documented outcome, current-status evidence, catalog-status note, event date and date basis, source date, verification date, evidence notes and source URLs. Month precision is preserved. A profile’s public-comment window appears in its acquisition notes; “not located” is not a closed-window finding.

Evidence labels: Documented means a usable official record was located; Announced means an official statement promises or describes the feature without a verified current workflow; Historical documentation identifies an older school-year record. Policy referenced, Policy linked and Adoption documented are deliberately different. Council documented requires a council-specific public record; Other committee documented does not establish a statutory council.

Methodology

WorthFighting researches official records first: enacted law and agency rules; district policies; board minutes and orders; council records; district registers, forms and catalogs. Agendas establish scheduled business, not an outcome. District summaries are attributed and are checked against more specific records when available.

This is a purposive research sample, not a census or a compliance ranking. We selected districts for document quality, current implementation, council activity, significant decisions, usable parent procedures and recurring public-record value. Search opportunity is an editorial assessment, not measured search volume or population coverage.

Each record separates a source’s date, an event date and our October 9, 2026 verification date. Month-only dates remain month-only. A live link is not proof that all underlying facts are current. Parent accounts, private student records and every campus holding were not accessed. Missing evidence is labeled; it is never converted into a negative finding.
