Bedford County, TN school board and Board of Education guide
The district roster, meeting records and policy library for Bedford County Schools and Shelbyville families.
School Board at a glance
Bedford County’s Board of Education has nine district representatives. The district links its public agendas and minutes through BOEconnect and its policies through TSBA. Meeting locations and dates vary, so use the specific notice rather than assuming a fixed monthly location.
School-board members and districts
| District | Member |
|---|---|
| 1 | David Brown |
| 2 | Brian Crews |
| 3 | Dan Reed |
| 4 | Lana Craig |
| 5 | Michael Cook |
| 6 | Dr. Andrea Anderson |
| 7 | Barton Williams |
| 8 | Shanna Boyette |
| 9 | Glenn Forsee |
The district’s published board-member page is the roster source. The August 20, 2026 minutes record these nine members, and the August 6 county return records Brian Crews, Dan Reed, Lana R. Craig and Barton Williams in their respective district races.
Leadership-date caution: the roster labels Michael Cook as chairman and Brian Crews as vice chairman. The September 15 agenda schedules elections for those positions, but the reviewed archive did not provide a verified resulting vote. This guide therefore does not assume the posted officer labels establish the post-September result.
Use the official roster for board contact routes. The district office is 500 Madison Street, Shelbyville, TN 37160, 931-684-3284. Check the county electoral district maps for representation. Those maps do not determine which school a student attends; school assignment is a separate district process.
Where to find meetings, agendas and minutes
The district’s BOEconnect public meeting archive is the central source for dates, locations, agendas, attachments and minutes. Its recent records illustrate why the individual notice matters:
| Date | Record reviewed | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| August 20, 2026, 6 p.m. | Regular-meeting minutes | Meeting and recorded actions at the Central Office Board Room, 500 Madison Street. |
| September 15, 2026, 6 p.m. | Regular-meeting agenda | Scheduled leadership elections, policy revisions and financial items; this agenda alone is not an outcome record. |
| October 5, 2026, 5 p.m. | Fall-retreat agenda | Scheduled discussion of facilities, laptops, maintenance software and a 5–10-year capital outlay plan. |
The archive listed the October 5 retreat at the Central Office Board Room. Earlier meetings have also been held at schools. No later October meeting date is asserted here without a verified published notice. Use the district board calendar and archive for the next announcement.
For a proposed action, open the agenda item and its attachments. For an outcome, read minutes and recorded motions. If a record is absent, check back with the district rather than interpreting absence as proof that no action occurred.
Board policies and how to read them
Start with the Bedford County policy manual hosted by the Tennessee School Boards Association. The district links this manual as its policy source. It groups policies on board operations, finances, services, instructional programs, personnel and students.
Look for policy number, title and adoption/revision date. A draft in a meeting packet may differ from the current adopted manual. The September 15 agenda, for example, lists Policy 1.101, Role of the Board of Education, and several proposed revisions. That establishes consideration; use the final policy and minutes to establish adoption.
For participation at a meeting, check the board’s current policy and Board Information & News or contact the district office. The county commission’s three-minute speaking rule should not be automatically applied to the school board.
For attendance and students leaving campus, the released-time religious instruction tracker links the relevant local policies and state-law record. A general release policy is not proof that a particular provider has begun classes.
What the school board decides, and who funds it
The board’s policy manual and meeting records are the starting points for education governance: district policies, superintendent oversight, school-budget proposals, contracts, facilities and student programs. The superintendent and staff handle district administration; an individual board member is not the full board acting alone.
County appropriations are a separate stage. The county’s June 30 budget announcement lists $106,880,712 for General Purpose School, $8,433,071 for Child Nutrition, $6,590,432 for Education Capital Projects, and $672,282 for School Age Care in FY 2026–27. These are distinct fund appropriations, not one classroom-spending number. See the county finance guide and official budget library.
The County Commission guide explains the county’s funding process. The public-capital guide connects adopted fund amounts to the records needed to verify a particular facility’s contract and completion.
LifeWise and released-time religious instruction
The separate Bedford County Schools / LifeWise released-time tracker remains the detailed source for provider-reported organizing status, local release and attendance policies, Tennessee law and unanswered implementation questions. Its program-status research date remains October 6, 2026; adding this governance guide does not establish a new launch or participating school.
Use this school-board guide to identify the responsible representatives and find the meeting record. Use the tracker to examine the specific program claim. A petition, public comment, agenda entry, legal eligibility and an operating class are different facts.
For development affecting school facilities, read the Growth & Development Tracker; for public facility spending, use the capital-projects records.

Update log and records to monitor
Published the nine-district roster, meeting and policy entry points, and the county-versus-school funding distinction. Flagged September officer-election outcomes as unverified rather than carrying forward an undated chair label.
Next records to check: September and October minutes, officer-election results, future meeting notices, policy revisions and any documented released-time operating arrangement.
This is a dated public-record guide. Missing or inaccessible records are not treated as proof of no action. Updates require supporting documents; no automatic monitoring schedule has been created.
