County Council: districts and committee responsibilities
The September 1, 2026 council minutes, page 1, identify the five members below. Committee roles come from the county's 2026 assignment sheet. These are dated official records; use the county officials gateway for current contact details.
| Official | Council district / leadership in the minutes | 2026 committee chair assignment |
|---|---|---|
| John Elliott | District 1 | Real Estate, Facilities & Land Management |
| Matthew Durham | District 2; council chairman | Budget, Finance & Administration |
| Don Mize | District 3; vice chairman | Law Enforcement, Public Safety, Health & Welfare |
| Thomas James | District 4; chairman pro tem | Planning & Economic Development |
| Glenn Hart | District 5 | Transportation |
The assignment sheet places all council members on Budget, Finance & Administration. It lists Mize, Hart and James on the law-enforcement committee. Committee responsibility identifies a useful records trail; it does not give a committee federal immigration authority. The county's council information page links district maps and meeting procedures.
Named actions and dissent: check the original minutes
| Official | Explicitly named action in a selected record | Source |
|---|---|---|
| John Elliott | Opposed final passage of Ordinance 2026-26; recorded result 4–1 | September 15, p. 7 |
| Matthew Durham | Opposed annexation-consent Resolution 2026-11; recorded result 3–2 | August 18, p. 6 |
| Don Mize | Moved adoption of Resolution 2026-11; seconded Resolution 2026-12 | August 18, p. 6; September 1, p. 7 |
| Thomas James | Seconded final readings of Ordinances 2026-27 and 2026-28 | September 15, p. 7 |
| Glenn Hart | Opposed Resolution 2026-11; moved adoption of Resolution 2026-12 | August 18, p. 6; September 1, p. 7 |
A second is a procedural action, not a substitute for a recorded vote: Hart seconded the annexation motion but the minutes explicitly record him opposed at the final vote. Aggregate 5–0 results are kept as aggregate results; this guide does not manufacture a separate roll-call list. The council register explains the measures and separates authorization from implementation.
School board and sheriff: separate records of accountability
The SDOC board page identifies Amanda Holder (District 1, vice chair), Meghan Ketterman (District 2, chair), Sandra Sloan (District 3, clerk), Denise McCormick (District 4) and Terry Swain (District 5). The November 10, 2025 approved minutes, page 2, record Holder moving and McCormick seconding the second-reading approval of Administrative Policy Manual Section I, which passed 5–0. That was a policy-package vote; it was not a separate recorded vote on every book or every policy within the section.
The school guide joins that record to current local materials policies and the 2026 board register. Local facilities implementation remains a separate evidence question.
Sheriff Mike Crenshaw's 287(g) report is recorded in the February 17, 2026 committee minutes, page 2. It is an attributed executive report, not a council roll call. The ICE resource preserves its date, terminology and missing agreement/activity evidence.
Follow an action through to its outcome
For an ordinance, the useful sequence is the proposal, final-reading minutes, executed text, later amendments and implementation records. For an expenditure, add the contract, payment and completion record. For a school materials issue, distinguish the adopted policy from a complaint, a board disposition and any appeal.
The county's FOIA instructions and SDOC's separate records instructions identify the appropriate public-record gateways. A request for an existing record should specify the body, meeting date, measure and document sought. Lack of a retrieved document is not proof that it does not exist.
Worth Fighting's conservative perspective: public spending and government authority deserve close scrutiny. Our factual entries apply the same source standards to officials regardless of party or whether a vote aligns with our editorial views.
Use the public-records and budget document library to match the June 29 county, school and fire-district budget votes to the adopted documents, locate sheriff and detention budget pages, and follow the local-vendor preference rule into a later solicitation. Department budgets alone do not establish costs for a specific program.
