Ben Ku is the incumbent Gwinnett County Commissioner for District 2, first elected in 2018. District 2 includes Lilburn and unincorporated portions of Lawrenceville.
Ku made history as one of the first Democrats elected to the Board in over three decades. He is the first Asian American, the first openly LGBTQ+ member, and the first software developer to serve on the previously homogeneous board.
Ku is the grandson of Chinese immigrants who played a pivotal role in engineering the original MARTA heavy rail system. He brings a technology perspective to county government, having built early websites and apps. He co-chairs the Public Policy committee of the Georgia chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Ku's priorities include infrastructure, inclusivity, innovation, development ordinance improvements, housing, and 15-minute communities. He hosts the 'Conversations with Ku' podcast covering county decisions and initiatives.
