Campbell County waste and recycling: choose a disposal route and follow the records
Start with the material and the responsible operator. Then confirm the site, hours and acceptance rules, or follow the documents behind a service or spending decision.

Match the material to the operator
The county convenience-center directory says county residents, including Altavista and Brookneal residents, may deposit residential household waste without a charge. That statement is not a blanket waiver for every material or for the regional landfill.
| Material or question | Official starting point | Confirm before traveling |
|---|---|---|
| Routine residential household waste | County center directory | Site hours and load eligibility |
| Bulky household items | Livestock Road facility | Material, origin and size restrictions |
| Brush and yard waste | County collection notice | Allowed days and the correct Livestock Road facility |
| Co-mingled recyclables | Recycle, Campbell! | Posted instructions for that container |
| Commercial refuse | Regional commercial guidelines | Correct commercial rules, fees and operator approval |
| Hazardous household material or electronics | Regional special-collection resource | Current event, accepted material and paperwork |
The Livestock Road page directs commercial refuse to the regional landfill and excludes shingles from the county convenience center. Describe the actual load when asking where to take it.
Check the site and the schedule together
The four-site recycling report covers Concord, Altavista, Evington and Livestock Road. For addresses elsewhere, use the official center directory; Hodges has its own posted schedule. The directory’s gated-location paragraph says six centers but lists seven names, so this guide does not turn that wording into a uniform schedule guarantee.
At Livestock Road, distinguish the county facility at 427 from the regional landfill at 361. Our yard-waste report explains the Saturday–Monday restriction at the county site and links the regional operator’s separate hours. Confirm the entrance with the responsible operator if a map or page disagrees.
Use the material-specific instructions
The county’s items-for-recycling page includes separate handling instructions for oil and other materials. It says residents may bring up to four tires in a load, with an annual limit of eight, at Livestock Road. A general recycling list should not be treated as permission to put those items in a co-mingled container.
The county hazardous-waste page still displays a 2023 collection date, and the regional page refers readers to 2024 dates. Those dates are historical, not upcoming appointments. Contact the operator for a current collection date and accepted-material requirements before making a trip. No future special-collection date is verified here.
Find the record behind the service
For a service concern, record the site, date, material and the question to resolve. For a spending or policy question, request existing records with a defined date range.
| Question | Useful records |
|---|---|
| Why did an acceptance rule change? | Adopted policy, board action and implementation memo |
| What did new equipment cost? | Award, purchase order, invoice and payment record |
| What does a recycling agreement require? | Executed contract and amendments |
| Is the program meeting its goals? | Dated tonnage, contamination, expense and revenue reports, if maintained |
| Has a future facility been approved? | Final decision, contract, permit and funding records |
The solid-waste planning library groups materials from April, September and November 2024, including options, a transfer-station plan and vendor presentations. Treat their dates and proposal labels literally. Their presence in the library does not establish a current permit, contract award or construction start.
The budget guide, meeting guide and FOIA guide explain the next documents to locate.
