Blount County 4-H: A December Beef Expo and the 2026–2027 Club Year

Alabama 4-H’s calendar places the North Alabama Junior Beef Expo in Blount County on December 4–5. For families exploring the new club year, enrollment, age eligibility and event registration are separate steps.

A December event on the state calendar

The Alabama 4-H events calendar, published August 21, 2026, lists the North Alabama Junior Beef Expo for December 4–5, 2026, in Blount County. The same calendar identifies August 1 as the start of the 2026–2027 club year.

The listing supplies dates and a county, but does not give an exact venue, entry deadline, fee or animal-entry requirements. Confirm those details with Extension before making travel plans or purchasing supplies. A calendar listing does not establish that registration is currently open.

The state program also schedules leadership, science, natural-resource and other learning activities. A livestock event is one way into 4-H; families can ask about projects that match a young person’s interests and the time available during the school year.

The current Blount office is in Cleveland

The current county directory lists the Blount County Extension Office at 6700 County Road 1, Cleveland, AL 35049, telephone 205-274-2129. Posted office hours are 8 a.m.–noon and 12:30–4:30 p.m.; confirm the day’s schedule before visiting.

The directory identifies Nancy Graves as an Extension agent serving Alabama 4-H, at 205-353-1034. Ask which local clubs are meeting, who leads the project you are considering and whether a first visit requires advance arrangements.

Use this current directory when planning a visit. Older program reports can describe earlier office locations or club offerings and should not be treated as a current meeting schedule.

Check the club-year age rules

Extension’s August 3, 2026 eligibility guidance covers youth ages 9–18, with Cloverbuds for ages 5–8. It provides a specific 2026–2027 age chart and calculator; use those resources instead of assuming that age on the enrollment date sets the correct division.

Cloverbuds focuses on cooperative learning and has additional activity restrictions. The guidance excludes Cloverbuds from animal, Shooting Sports and RiverKids programs. Ask the county office which activities fit the child’s division and whether a particular event has further eligibility rules.

Membership eligibility and acceptance into an individual event are different questions. Read the current event instructions before treating a general age category as permission to enter.

Enrollment needs county approval before event registration

Extension’s 4HOnline instructions direct families to select Alabama, Alabama 4-H Youth Development and their county of residence, then complete member information, club and project selections, health information and consents.

The instructions say an enrollment must be approved at the county level before a member can register for events or trainings. Returning families are directed to separate re-enrollment instructions. Contact the county office if an account or approval question remains unresolved.

Before choosing a club, confirm its meeting location and expectations. Ask about project materials, travel, fees, adult participation and accommodations. Those practical questions help a family distinguish the ongoing commitment from a single event.

There are options beyond livestock ownership

The state’s Wildlife Habitat Education Program offers youth ages 9–18 learning through independent study or a local club. Its published materials address identifying species, understanding habitats and explaining management decisions.

Ask Extension whether local guidance or a group is available for that interest; a statewide program description does not guarantee a Blount club or an open place. Families comparing learning opportunities can also read our student career-showcase report and county and Oneonta school-board guide.

Sources and reporting

WorthFighting.org reviewed five Alabama Extension sources on October 19, 2026. The December expo is prospective and is described only to the level supported by the state calendar. Current office contacts are distinguished from older reports, and membership, county approval and event-specific entry are separate steps. We did not enroll a child, confirm club openings, inspect health forms or verify an expo venue, price or entry deadline.
