The announced October 27, 2026 date has passed. This updated guide preserves the original schedule and career resources; attendance and event outcomes have not been verified.

Update note: Updated October 29, 2026: the scheduled date has passed. The original announcement was rechecked, but this review did not establish that the event occurred or confirm attendance. This is a dated event guide, not a recap.

October 29 status check

The October 27 date in Wallace State’s original announcement is now past. We rechecked that announcement and the college’s news listings on October 29. They did not establish a verified attendance count or event outcomes for this report. The original forecast of more than 1,500 people remains a forecast.

Travel, permission-form and exhibitor-registration prompts for that date have been removed. A future recap would require dated official confirmation. Families can still use the career-course resources below without assuming a student attended.

A career event before high school

In an August 31, 2026 announcement, Wallace State Community College scheduled Tools of the Trade for October 27, 2026, from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. on its main campus in Hanceville. Its intended audience was eighth graders from Blount, Cullman and Winston counties. The forecast of more than 1,500 students, teachers and parents was not an attendance count.

The announcement named the Blount County Economic Development Agency among the hosts and invited employer demonstrations, volunteers and sponsors. Those were arrangements advertised before the scheduled date; this guide no longer presents the invitation as open.

Ask the school about follow-up resources

The original announcement did not identify a school-by-school trip roster. This review has not confirmed which Blount County schools or students attended. Ask the school counselor about career resources and any follow-up activities available to the student.

Choose two fields the student wants to explore and write down a question for each: what a working day involves, which school subjects matter and what training follows graduation. Use the answers in the next course-planning discussion.

Connect career interests to local courses

The Blount County Career Technical Center website lists fields including agriculture, vehicle repair, construction, welding, health care, cosmetology, industrial maintenance and drafting. Its contact page gives the campus address as 61500 US Highway 231, Cleveland, AL 35049, and the phone number 205-775-2080.

Ask the counselor how a preferred field fits the student’s high-school schedule, what prerequisites apply, and whether transportation or equipment costs need planning. Confirm whether a course leads to an industry credential, college credit or a prerequisite for later training. Those outcomes should be checked for the specific course and school year.

Check the year on course descriptions

The center’s publicly posted course catalog is labeled 2023–2024. It describes classroom and laboratory study, including construction, automotive systems and computer-aided drafting. That document is useful background, but its date does not establish a 2026–2027 course schedule, current seat availability or next year’s admission requirements.

Request the current course list before making a registration decision. Compare the sequence of classes with graduation requirements and ask how students progress from an introductory course to more advanced work. A course description alone does not establish job placement or earnings.

Keep the next step specific

Have the student identify one field to investigate further and one person to contact. If the student attended a career event, bring any notes to the next scheduling discussion. For other education options, our Bridge Academy report covers its separate enrollment process; the school-board guide explains how to find district records and parent contacts.

Sources and reporting

Originally published October 19, 2026 after reviewing Wallace State’s August 31 announcement and the career center’s public pages. On October 29, we rechecked those sources and the college’s news listings, marked the announced date as past and removed expired participation prompts. We did not establish that the event occurred, verify attendance or obtain an official recap. The catalog remains labeled 2023–2024; it does not establish current course availability. Suggested questions are practical guidance, not school requirements.
