What the available sources establish
| Question | Finding in this edition | Source or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Listed agency | Campbell County Sheriff's Office, Virginia; ORI VA0160000 | Independent 287(g) Watch profile |
| Reported agreement | Task Force Model; dated May 8, 2025 | Independent index, not an independently inspected signed contract |
| Index update | October 16, 2026 | Date displayed when reviewed October 17 |
| Current official confirmation | Signed pages and current ICE roster not obtained | Present operating status remains unverified |
| Local implementation | Officer authorization, activity and program finances not established | Separate local and federal records are needed |
The profile's update date records the independent project's data update. It is not an ICE announcement confirming Campbell's operations on that date.
How the Task Force Model works
8 U.S.C. 1357(g) provides for written agreements allowing qualified state or local officers to perform specified immigration functions, with required training and federal direction and supervision. ICE's Task Force Model fact sheet describes immigration duties carried out during routine law-enforcement work, including non-custodial settings.
Those sources explain the federal framework. They do not identify which Campbell County officers are currently authorized or where they have been deployed. Establishing local authority requires officer authorization records and the applicable agreement, including any amendments.
Finding the agreement and checking its status
The document trail includes an ICE-hosted agreement link and a third-party GitHub archive linked from the independent index. The official PDF could not be read during this review, and readable signed pages were not obtained from the archive.
A readable agreement would allow the signatures and contract terms to be checked directly. Any later amendments, suspension or termination notices would also be needed to assess the agreement's current status. The archived file's presence by itself does not resolve those questions.
The official contact for sheriff-held records
The Campbell County Sheriff's Office page identifies Sheriff Whit Clark and the office's Virginia FOIA contact. That official page is the starting point for current contact details and requests for records held by the sheriff.
The page does not provide 287(g) operational totals. A request can identify Campbell County, Virginia, the date range sought and the specific record categories below. The responsible records custodian can clarify what records the office maintains.
Records that could answer the local questions
| Local question | Records to seek, if maintained |
|---|---|
| What agreement governs the partnership? | Readable signed memorandum of agreement, amendments and status notices |
| Which officers are authorized? | Dated certification, authorization and training records |
| What work has occurred under the agreement? | Agency-specific encounter, arrest, detainer and custody-transfer records |
| What happened after a transfer? | Relevant federal outcome records; court dispositions for any separate criminal case |
| What has the county spent or received? | Program-specific budget entries, payroll allocations, invoices and reimbursement records |
| What oversight has occurred? | Compliance reviews, findings and complaint dispositions |
These are questions for further records work, not a statement that every record category exists. Encounters, arrests, detainers, transfers and removals are different measures. A total agency budget is not a 287(g) spending total, and an unavailable figure should not be reported as zero.
