Start with a referral when you are unsure which program fits
Blount County’s senior-services page directs residents to the Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging, known as M4A, at 205-670-5770. M4A’s Aging and Disability Resource Center provides free information and referrals for older adults and people with disabilities in Blount and four other Alabama counties.
Describe the immediate need: meals, help at home, a caregiver break, Medicare questions or social activities. Ask which program handles it, what information is needed and how to follow up. A referral is a starting point; the receiving program determines eligibility and available services.
Five centers in M4A’s Blount directory
M4A’s center directory lists these Blount County locations. Call for current hours, meal arrangements, transportation and activities; the listing does not confirm a particular day’s availability.
| Center | Listed address | Telephone |
|---|---|---|
| Blountsville | 171 Water Street, 35031 | 205-429-2406 |
| Locust Fork | 29829 Alabama 79, 35097 | 205-681-3963 |
| Oneonta | 101 First Avenue East, 35121 | 205-625-4476 |
| Snead | 268 Richman Drive, 35952 | 205-466-7628 |
| Nectar | 14797 State Highway 160, Cleveland, 35049 | 205-559-7312 |
The City of Oneonta’s own page confirms its downtown address and describes activities, recreation and devotions geared toward people 60 and older. Other programs may use different eligibility criteria; ask about the service you need.
Ask separately about center meals and home delivery
M4A’s nutrition page describes meals at a congregate site, such as a senior center, and delivery for people who are homebound. It also identifies circumstances in which spouses or people with disabilities below age 60 may qualify.
Ask M4A to assess the person’s situation, the delivery area and any waiting list. Confirm how meal arrangements work on holidays or during an interruption. The page’s separate farmers-market notice is labeled 2023; it should not be used as evidence that a current seasonal application is open.
For another household resource, our Hope House report explains its separate food and utility-assistance contacts.
Caregivers can request their own support
Alabama Cares is described by M4A as support for unpaid caregivers providing at least 20 hours of care weekly, subject to additional eligibility rules. The page identifies groups including caregivers of older adults, people with dementia-related conditions, and certain older relatives caring for children or adults with severe disabilities.
Published support categories include information, care coordination, counseling, training and respite. Ask which criteria apply, what documentation is needed and whether a requested service is available. Describe both the person’s care needs and the caregiver’s need for time away; a listing does not guarantee a placement or a particular number of respite hours.
Fall Medicare counseling: confirm the appointment and venue
M4A’s SHIP page offers free Medicare counseling and says its counselors do not sell insurance. Its 2026 schedule lists October 27 at Blountsville Public Library and November 10 at Oneonta Senior Center. For appointments, it gives 205-378-4123 and Ldavidson@m4a.org.
Confirm the Oneonta venue before traveling: the counseling schedule gives 101 First Street South, while both the city’s senior-center page and M4A’s center directory give 101 First Avenue East. We have not resolved that discrepancy or confirmed available appointments. The schedule also does not provide session times.
M4A asks participants to bring a prescription list and their Medicare and other insurance cards to the counseling appointment. This guide identifies the service; it does not recommend a plan or determine coverage.
Plan the visit and ask about ways to participate
When arranging a visit, confirm the entrance, accessibility, transport, appointment time and any documents to bring. If a family member will help, ask how the office handles consent to discuss the person’s information. Keep a contact name and the next follow-up step together.
The county also highlights RSVP volunteer opportunities for adults 55 and older. Ask about current placements and training before committing to a role. For a separately arranged county bus trip, use our public-transportation guide; for military-service questions, see the veterans’ services report.
Sources and reporting
WorthFighting.org reviewed seven county, city and M4A pages on October 19, 2026. Addresses and phone numbers are attributed to the current directories. The Oneonta counseling location conflicts with two senior-center listings; readers are directed to confirm the venue. A 2023 farmers-market notice is not treated as current enrollment information. We did not book services, assess eligibility, verify available meals or appointments, or provide medical or insurance-plan advice.
