Blount County Public Transportation: Scheduling, Fares and Trip Planning

A county bus trip starts with a call to dispatch. This guide brings together the published booking window, general fares and practical questions to settle before leaving home.

Start with dispatch

The ALTRANS directory lists Blount County’s service as open to residents generally, with particular attention to older people and people with disabilities. It also identifies senior-center routes and volunteer-program transportation. Dispatch is 205-973-0423; the office is at 1004 Second Avenue East, Oneonta, AL 35121.

The county’s service page asks riders to book 24–48 hours ahead. Office hours are weekdays, 7 a.m.–4 p.m.; demand-response rides run 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Give your name, pickup address, destination, requested time and accessibility needs. A parent or guardian must book for children under 15.

Ask for the fare for your exact trip

The county publishes these general fares:

  • Within a city or town: $1.50 per stop.
  • Elsewhere within Blount County: $3 per five-mile zone, plus $1.50 per stop.
  • Outside the county: medical trips only, with a four-hour minimum. The posted rate-inquiry number is 205-625-6250.

Pay each boarding with the correct amount; the page does not allow advance round-trip payment. Child fares and other policies appear in the full fare schedule. Ask dispatch to confirm the charge for each leg and any additional stop.

Plan accessibility and the return journey

Discuss a lift-equipped vehicle when booking. County policy allows one qualifying adult aide to ride without a fare and warns that pickup can vary by 30 minutes.

Before confirming an appointment, ask how the return pickup is arranged, where to wait and whom to call if the appointment runs late. Explain any assistance needed between your door and the vehicle, and ask what the driver can provide. Confirm the vehicle and assistance arrangements for your particular trip.

Keep the trip details together

Write down the travel date, pickup window, destination, return arrangement and quoted fares. Keep dispatch’s number with those notes. If plans change, notify dispatch promptly. Check service around holidays before scheduling an appointment that depends on a ride.

The transit directory separately lists 205-973-0673 as the office contact. Start with the dispatch number for booking. Our Hope House report has separate food and utility-assistance contacts; confirm an appointment and transport independently.

WorthFighting.org reviewed the county service page and ALTRANS directory on October 19, 2026. Dispatch, office and out-of-county rate contacts are labeled according to their source. We did not book a ride, confirm vehicle availability or obtain an individual fare quote. Confirm trip-specific accessibility arrangements directly with dispatch; this guide does not reproduce every operating policy.
