Blount County Garbage and Recycling: Why Your Service Address Matters
Blount County’s Republic Services contract and Oneonta’s Meridian Waste service have different contacts and billing arrangements. Official pages also separate regular garbage pickup, brush collection and the Hayden convenience center.

Check the service arrangement for your address
The county’s solid-waste page identifies Republic Services as its contractor for residential and commercial collection. It says customers can request the county’s contracted rate, while a municipality may have its own pricing arrangement. The page does not publish a current dollar rate.
Within Oneonta city limits, Oneonta Utilities identifies Meridian Waste as the garbage provider and says the utility handles new-service setup and billing. Its setup number is 205-274-2159.
A postal address alone does not settle which arrangement applies. Confirm whether the property is inside city limits and which provider currently serves it before starting service or comparing bills. Oneonta Utilities also directs people outside city limits to Meridian for direct account setup, so the county page should not be read as a complete list of every private service option.
Oneonta pickup, replacement carts and brush
Meridian’s Oneonta-specific instructions describe once-weekly collection and require carts at the curb the evening before or by 7 a.m. on collection day. They identify a 95-gallon Meridian/ADSI cart for containerized, nonhazardous household waste. Use the address-specific schedule to confirm the day.
For replacement carts, Oneonta Utilities gives Meridian’s number, 866-440-3983. Brush and household-item pickup go through city hall at 205-274-2150. Ask which items are eligible and how they must be placed before putting material out.
Meridian lists Thanksgiving and Christmas among its observed holidays and describes a one-day delay for the remainder of a week when an observed holiday falls on or before the normal collection day. Check current service notices for your route.
Recycling has its own instructions
Meridian’s local guidance points residents to Public Works on Thursdays for cardboard, plastics numbered 1 and 2, and aluminum. Confirm the current drop-off location, hours and preparation rules with the city before loading a vehicle. That published list does not establish acceptance for every material marked recyclable.
The same provider warns against putting lithium-ion batteries in ordinary garbage or recycling and links a dedicated battery collection locator. Use an authorized collection route for those batteries.
The Hayden convenience center
The county lists its garbage and recycling convenience center at 2390 Armstrong Loop, Hayden, AL 35079, telephone 205-505-0150. Posted hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m.–noon; Sunday is closed.
The county page does not provide a disposal-price schedule or full accepted-materials list. Call with the material type and approximate load size to confirm acceptance, charges, payment methods and any holiday change. A convenience-center visit is a separate question from a curbside collection account.
Where a missed pickup or billing question goes
Republic’s customer-support page provides pickup and holiday schedules, bulk-service information and missed-pickup reporting. It says an online account must be linked to report a missed collection through that route. Keep the service address, account number, scheduled pickup date and any earlier reference number together.
For county garbage or recycling collection issues, the county lists Danette Heinrich at 205-973-0285, extension 3502, or dheinrich@blountcountyal.gov. Start a Oneonta billing question with the utility’s published contact.
For questions about the government agreement itself, our county records guide explains where to find decisions and request documents. This review identifies published service channels; it does not establish an individual customer’s correct bill or the terms of an unseen contract.
Sources and reporting
WorthFighting.org compared the county, utility and two providers’ public instructions on October 19, 2026. The report preserves the distinction between municipal service, the county contract and other private accounts. We did not review a customer bill, obtain a current disposal quote or inspect the underlying collection contracts. Posted recycling guidance is attributed to Meridian; current drop-off details should be confirmed with the city.
